Tina - is that some sort of Metallic Blue Bee in the first picture? I have never seen one of those, is that like a Northern Maryland thing?

I was posting the same thing, I actually felt kind of stupid before posting it as I have never seen one either, and I am in the same state as the OP...

Joe- I have the seen this bee in my yard a lot but I do like to garden and have many plants that attract insects. This bee is only 1/4" but the color is quite striking. Usually they are a metallic green this one shows more blue, I guess due to the bright sunlight. Unfortunately, I am not from this area but I am trying to learn about the insect world and use a Field Guide and the internet to determine the name of my subjects.

To all of you- thank you for your kind comments. I am trying to learn how to get good photos out of the K-7 and K-5 and have been a bit frustrated. It might have not helped, that I got the 7 first and then the 5 and am using both of them. I appreciate your comments, it shows me that I am getting somewhere.
