David vs. Goliath
Lens: DA* 50-135 Camera: K5 Photo Location: Elk Island
Posted By: daacon, 07-31-2011, 09:51 AM

One early morning in a land far far away .................

Goliath corners David on isolated road ......

With a barrage of jabs and uppercuts - David takes down the mammoth beast

Soon tales of the battle spread throughtout the park and the mear mention of the name David drives fear into their eyes

Thanks Bob - so what you are not buying I knocked him out ? Come on ..........I completley forgot I could have filmed that with the K5 dooooooooooooh !

This rolling, also called wallowing, deters biting flies
and removes tufts of molted fur.Bison also leave their scent
in the wallow. And during the rut, bull bison wallow
to display their strength and vigor.

Thanks Ash - I am usually pretty careful - for the second shot I had the car closer than the Buffalo with the door open cause ya just never know.

thanks Dave for the information and link. I have seen many of them in Yellowstone and Custer NP in SD, but have never seen them wallow. Thanks for taking the time to explain it. Bob

Indeed it's the new fable Rupert - Otis was removing a thorn from the Bison's toe

No problem I have seen them do it numerous times and now I know why as well (I assumed it was just to get the bugs off - but there is more to it than that).

Thanks Dave. Indeed it is is great to have a National Park so close (about 20 minutes away) - I have seen Caribou, Elk, Deer, Moose, Eagles (once), Beavers, Coyotes, Muskrats, and a host of other mammals and birds. It's all timing (except for the Bison you can always see them) on the others - they scare easy so one has to have camera ready for a 3 or 4 second window at times.
