Flash and Portrait Practice

I just received my flash stand and umbrella in the mail last Friday and wanted to try some flash portraits to begin. Luckily my girlfriend was willing to sit there and smile while I tried to figure things out. Here is one of my favorites from the day. Any C&C is welcome! Thanks for looking!

Hi, ekim89,

I'm barely amateur, but thought I'd respond. Overall: very nice shot. I like the composure, the angle, the smile (of course), and the tone. I might like a little more contrast, but again, I'm still acquiring my taste for photography. And the focus on her chin seems just a tad soft. Maybe stop it down once to get a little more detail.

Still, I think it's a very well-made shot.

Thank you very much for the response muraii. I do agree about the chin being too soft (it was the first thing I noticed once I put the image on my computer). The lack of contrast is something that can be easily adjusted in Photoshop. The main issue was the fact that the wall had a very grey tone to it to begin with and I was just snapping shots as she was preoccupied; eventually I will do a whole set-up for some shots

Thanks again,
Mike

As long as the eyes are in focus (which are both fine here), it's not really pertinent that the entire rest of the face and chin be in focus.

Thanks! I could probably do something in PP to get deeper blacks. I will have to try when I get home tonight!
