Noctilucent Clouds
Lens: Sigma 10-20mm Camera: Pentax K-5 Photo Location: Finland ISO: 80 Shutter Speed: >6s Aperture: F9.5

There have been these relatively rare clouds on a couple of previous nights now.
Last night I managed to get to the nearby lake and took some photos of this interesting phenomena.

Noctilucent clouds are much higher (about 80km high) than normal clouds and they are composed of tiny crystals of water ice in addition to dust particles. Source of these are not known for certain.
I searched some info about these clouds on Wikipedia and seems that possible sources are micrometeors, volcanoes and dust from troposphere. Also reaction of methane with hydroxyl radical could be the source.
First records of these clouds have been made on year 1885 which is two years after the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa. Much more info can be found from Wikipedia.

Amazing shot, I love the purples, reeds and reflections. Great framing and post processing. If I was an art dealer, I'd offer to sell it for you. Hope you're doing a large print for your wall.

It was a bit hard one to expose because sourroundings were so dark and horizon was still a lot brighter. It's always experiment when doing longer exposures.

You may not be the only one. We get this much of these clouds couple of times in a summer if even that. And these are seen mostly on summer when the sun is at the right angle (4-16 degrees below horizon).
