Another Dog Show
Posted By: roscot, 12-17-2006, 07:21 AM

Well, at least this one was local. Anyway, as I wasn't "working the show", I concentrated on doing portraits, rather than ring action.

Most shots taken with the FA 28-105 f3.2-f4.5 and the Pentax AF 280T flash in Auto mode, cause my EF500 DG is back at Sigma getting rechipped. The last 4 were available light at ISO800 and the FA77 lmtd.

A while back, someone asked how well thr K10D would work with a consumer level zoom. Well the FA28-105 has been a favorite of mine on my DS, and so far I'm very pleased with it's performance on the K10D.

By the way, these were all shot in RAW and converted with the new Adobe ACR 4.0 beta and CS3 beta. If you own CS or CS2, download and try this version. The RAW converter alone is worth it. It really rocks.

I'll post the images in replies.

-Alan

These were all available light. They also prove that SR is not a substitute for good technique, it does help though. I had a varying amount of success here.

The lighting on these works. I envy you the ability to take such good flash shots without blowing out the details. The details are clear and the catch lights bring their eyes to life nicely. Well captured flowing fur.

Thanks, Clarence.
In this case I'll give credit a lot of credit to ACR 4.0 beta. It has a lot of new features and adjustments, one of which is "Highlight Recovery"

Another new adjustment lightens the mid-shadow range and works much like the "Shadow/Highlight tool in PS. The diffence is it is working on the 16bit linear data, so does a much finer job. Oh, you can now do B&W conversions right in raw. I tried it yesterday, but haven't uploaded it yet. It does outstandng conversions.

Here is a link to some info on CS3.
