I've heard that images from directly above the subject are unflattering, but I kind of liked this shot...C&C welcome and encouraged! Thanks!

I actually like it also. It's unique, and her great smile helps.

Nice shot, and even more more so, since this was shot with the kit lens.

personally i'd have had the light a bit more to the front of her (lighting up her more than the chair) but other than that i'd say you got a winner (picture and gf)

There are no rules more 'guidlines' - and this shot proves that - I agree a unique persepctive of a lovely subject.

Thanks! I am actually pleasantly surprised with the quality of that lens more often than not.

Thanks Gaelen! I agree about the chair receiving too much light. She is a winner gf for putting up with me always wanting to take pictures of her .

Sometimes you just have to go with it and screw the rules. I believe that the rules are there to be helpful, but I'm not going to let them dictate every move I make. Nor should you. If you like the results, that's all that matters in the end. I very much like this shot. It breaks a standard, but it works too.

Another rule... if your subject is normal weight to heavy, (anything other than a bean pole basically) ,you might want to shoot from a higher angle so her legs don't look fat and her hips aren't huge. That's a tip from a wedding photographers guide. I'm not saying she heavy... it's a comment on the assumption that this shot breaks all the rules. Maybe, maybe not.

It's OK to break the rules if you understand the rule. She's quite a pretty lady.

I agree with you on this one, and she likes to have me above her or at least at eye level for every shot I take of her.
