I love airshows, much of the reason I got a 150-500. Even the 55-300 was a bit short.

Look like you are due for a sensor dust cleaning. Blue sky really shows the blobs.

hmm...I just got this refurbed from Pentax. Thought they would have cleaned the sensor.

EDIT: I went ahead and did in the in camera sensor clean function and checked in camera dust alert where it shows you a white image with black dots for dust and its completely clean now.

Really nice set with some great shots. I do think that people in general often crop too close with photos of aircraft though, sometimes it's good to give them a little more space

You can go into the menu and make the sensor self clean every time you turn the camera on. That's the setting I use and haven't had any dust issues (maybe just use a jet blower once every 3-4 months).

Nice shots! I used my 55-300 at Avalon airshow and it was easily long enough - but it would depend on the airfield and the kind of shots you're trying for. I found that a lot of the time I had to zoom out, which was frustrating. Anything longer would make a fast aircraft harder to frame, harder to get sharp and hard to hold. Trying to track planes in a crowd of people would be hard with a tripod. I took mine, but I didn't end up using it, and regretted lugging it around!
