Taken yesterday in late afternoon. As I await the return of my K5 from C.R.I.S. for repairs to the mirror (mirror flop issue), I took these with my other camera. Similar to my usual setup - 300mm lens, handheld.

This summer they've been a bit skittish. A few that came around last summer would hover around my head and came very close to landing on my shoulder. We'll see about getting any closer - would make for a great shot...

This was not shot with a DA* lens. Using my other camera as I await the return of my K5. The lens was a Nikon 300mm (f/4). Not sure if that's 100% kosher for posting, but I didn't think folks would mind. As for comparisons, the Nikon 300mm (f/4) and Pentax DA* 300mm are very similar. Based on my experience I would give a very slight edge in sharpness to the Nikon, and the edge in bokeh to the Pentax. The Pentax also has a better built lens hood, though it's not a huge issue.

Thanks Ash,

Appreciate the kind words. Overall I think # 3 is also my favorite. In general I prefer shots where you see more of the face, instead of just from the side, but of of this particular group, I think # 3 probably has the best clarity.
