Goldfinches aplenty in this area of late.

Skittish birds but one of my favourite subjects.

Excellent shots.....we see them in the late Fall for a few days, but I never can get any shots like that of them.
Regards!

Wow -- especially love #1. Oddly enough I was out just this morning chasing after American goldfinches. Lacking patience, skill, and the right equipment, I didn't get any captures worth sharing. I'll have to start hanging out near thistles.

Thanks baro-nite,

Your quite a bit south of me in North Carolina. Wait a while until the thistles go to seed and you will have no trouble finding Goldfinches. With a little patience you can get fairly close to these birds but they can be skittish.

Good ones mate. Missed focus a little on a couple of them, but overall, nicely done.

It's so nice to see these excellent shots.

We have Yellow Finches at home here year round - actually too many (usually 50-60 at a time at the feeders every day). While this gives me ample opportunities to shoot them, I don't like them as much as I could if I could capture them without the feeder in the shot.

I know ours are very flighty - the slightest movement and they are gone. I am very impressed you got these shots with a manual lens - you must have been quite stealthy and spent some time to get these.

Thanks for sharing - beautiful birds and beautiful shots!

Thanks stormtech/vievetrick/ash

Can't say I was all that stealthy. I do observe where and when the finches are likely to be found however. As for manual focusing there isn't a lot of choice when you have a manual focus lens. I still miss a lot of shots but every now and then I get a little wood on the ball.
