I guess this qualifies as macro.

My entire reason for getting a DSLR originally was to improve the photos I take of my jewelry, and then I once I had one, I found I spent most of my time photographing everything else! But lately, I've seen a definite difference in how my jewelry photos are turning out. I give most of the credit to the macro lens I am using, but I must admit, the improved quality of my photos seems to be bringing more frequent visitors to my online store. Here are a few recent examples I'm particularly pleased with.

The macro lens really allows me to showcase not just the overall look of a piece, but also the quality of the stones being used, and the detail of the craft. I find I like pictures outdoors under natural light, and using nature as a background, work best for me. I have a lightbox, but I almost never use it anymore.

And here are some unusual macro examples of wildlife on the local leaves (she says with tongue firmly in cheek):

Aquamarine and iolite are the first two stones, with london blue topaz against the moss:

Not bad results.
Once you play around with lighting, you'll find a whole new realm of product photography to discover.
