Duck, Duck, Goose??
Lens: SMC 135-600 Camera: K20D Photo Location: East Tennessee

Well, not really "duck, duck, goose," but that's so much easier to say than "heron, heron, vulture"...

Had a few moments to try out my good old SMC 135-600 on my new (to me) K20D body. It seems to perform much better (easier to focus and less CA) than it did on the K-M.

Here are two views of a rather shy Black Crowned Night Heron. First time all summer I've had time to "stalk" close enough to photograph him.

And a few views of a not very shy Great Blue Heron. Our young GB Herons are usually very approachable...

Finally a glimpse of one of my favorite birds here at the park - isn't he a handsome Black Vulture!

Hope you enjoyed this feathered trio! Thanks for your comments & suggestions!!

I never get tired of the Heron shots - I like to see the different varieties.

Saying "Great Blue Heron" and "approachable" in the same sentence isn't normal for me - they are the most skittish of all the birds around here.

And just love the vulture shots - especially the last one - a statue could be made from that pose!

Cee Cee - Thanks so much! We have PLENTY of Black Vultures perching all over this part of our park, and not at all shy...

Stormtech - Thank you for your kind words. GB Herons here are usually very shy as well, but we frequently find the bold ones...

Bob - Glad you enjoyed these! Yes, I am blessed with a great job (Park Ranger) in a great place!

Sumrall - Thanks! It is a fun lens, although a bit "interesting" to handle out on the trail... (about 2 feet long, weighs almost 9 pounds...)

Very clear and vivid shots :-) and nice color.

I'm impressed with your ability to MF such a big ol' lens. Have you used the close-up lens for it?

Bojidar Dimitrov writes: Pentax has developed a dedicated close-up lens for this lens which shortens the minimum focus distance from 6.0 down to 3.3 meters.
