3 winter landscapes
Posted By: little laker, 11-30-2007, 03:04 PM

I still have several other pic's to sort through, but you might like at least 2 of these pictures.

This Frozen fountain is located in Osoyoos, British Columbia.

Just so you all know, Osoyoos is Canada's hottest city (It really is, but that's average temperatures. Summers are hot there, and most winter days are right around freezing)

This picture was taken in Penticton, British Columbia.

I know that the sky is kind of blown out on the right, however in my opinion it sort of works with this picture
That on the left is a brush that got sprayed during a COLD wind storm. This lake is well known for it's wind.
I should mention that channeler (Paul) just spent a couple of weeks right across the lake from this spot.
It was really nice to meet you Paul, and I wish that we had more time together.

And this picture is close to my house.

I don't know if I like that angle of the bridge or not .
Please let me know what you think of it.

I might post more pictures tonight, but I'll probably start a new thread with them.

Nice shots! I really enjoy the fountain and the bridge!
Thanks hamidlmt, the chances are that you'll see more of the bridge this winter.

I was told that Osoyoos also has Canada's only dessert. Keep up with these type of pictures and people will really think we all live in igloos.

The rest of the province is snowed-under and we get zilch but, it sure is cold.

Stu, I agree, the angle of the bridge doesn't seem right but it could be the colour - it just seems it doesn't stick-out.
Thanks JC,
The snow's gone, with extremely warm temps the last 2 days.

My next time there I'll attempt a different angle, although the trees might be in the way.

Great work, as usual Stu.. I like #2 the best, love the sun reflecting off the water. Great captures.

Thanks Dan,
It was a little tough to get, without any solar flares but well worth the effort.

Stu #1 is great. we are getting our first signs of winter today. Looks like you already know how it feels. Great shots and I feel cold just looking.
I hope that your keeping warm there
Enjoy it as much as possible, winter does bring along some amazing photo op's.

Nice Shots Stu.... Glad to see you back at it.. i was missing seeing your pictures.. They are always great!!!

I also thought that #3 was an HDR picture... The coloring is definately different.. But I prefer #1.. it is nice and clear and unique with the ice..

Great job as always...

Kim
Thanks Kim,
Sorry that I haven't gotten more pic's lately.
It was partly due to the weather, and partly due to those picture frame orders.
I'm down to 3 orders now, and might actually be able to do that how-to soon

Truely inspirational. I like the first shot the best - beautiful in deed.
Thanks roentarre,
In a couple of weeks when it's COLD outside I'll really be looking forward to warming up while looking at your pictures.

It's all part of my evil plan, to make the world think Canada is too cold to visit

I hope that your staying warm.

I almost forgot, I believe that there is one more official desert in Canada which is usually forgotten about. But I may be wrong about it.
The Arctic Circle

Thanks Thomas,
I'm starting to learn what I should be looking for through the view finder.
I don't think that the learning will ever end in photography.

Yes, I have used my snow blower trice so far...argh! You are lucky if you don't have any by now.

Like everyone else, the first one is the real keeper. Beautiful colours, and tack sharp.

As for the bridge, I can't speak for anyone else, but my mind wants to see the other side of that bridge closest to the viewer to get a little geometry going.

Great shots as usual Stu. I really like the 1st one and the second is very good as well. But that frozen fountain is great. As for the bridge shot. it's a tough exposure. Bright sky, bright A snow and dark trees, dark ironwork. A few things come to mind. Shoot this earlier or later in the day with the sun behind you as much as possible to highlight the bridge. If that doesn't work then shoot multiple exposures in camera and see if you can bring out the bridge/trees more without burning the sky/snow. or shooot multiple shots with the intention of an HDR final.

A little off the wall but...You could go down there after sunset and set up the camera on a tripod as well and take a timed exposure. Then take a flash and light up parts of the bridge with some directed bursts. I've been looking for an abandoned bridge or similar structure to try this. haven't found anything yet for the shot. But thought it might be cool to have a dark sky and leave the camera on bulb and use the flash to highlight parts of the structure.

Thanks Peter,
And that's a very interesting ideal I like it.
The bridge is about 45 min away from my house, including the hike in required during the winter.
Which really isn't all that bad.
I'll have to try that when the river is safe to walk right across.

I'll post it as soon I have the chance, even if it doesn't work out.
