Bird of Prey

This guy was just on our deck in the back yard. If you look closely, you'll see feathers from the sparrow he'd just eaten.

Thanks! I've seen this guy around our house before. Don't really like them this close though - afraid they'll take off with our Yorkie!

If it's a red tailed hawk, your yorkie weighs about twice as much (unless it's a tiny puppy). These things eat mice, your dog is safe. I would love to see these on a regular basis, truly beautiful animals.

This photo might help in identification? Maybe it's a young Red Tailed Hawk (banded tail)? Good to know it won't take off with our Yorkie -- she's bigger than him, but not by much - she's about 6-7 pounds.

Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii). The wings are too short, the tail is too long, and the bill is too long for any of the Buteo like Red-tailed.

This is a Red Tail. Really interesting bird. A friend of mine has four of them that he shows. JIMBO
