Domeage to Light Painters who Inspire Me...

Argh! My Living room is being invaded by Light Domes!!!

No its not photoshop - it was done with LongExposure and LEDs.. I've been very inspired last few weeks by Lightpainting, specifically the "Light Junkies" group in Flickr.

I of course gave the cliched Orb a go last week - and based on that success I decided to hack together a very crude "Dome" tool (which was, until recently, the current 'mystery' in Light Painting...)

The above was my second go at LightPainting all up, and first go with the Dome Tool... I had a minor ghost in a tiny spot, so all in all, not too bad. 30" Exposure, lots of running around wearing dark clothing, then popping a flash, then hoping it all worked and I wasn't a whopping big ghost in the image

(Edit: Incidentally, heres my first attempt.. the aforementioned cliched Orb...)

These are really cool adr1an. I'd seen plenty of orbs but the domes would be a technical challenge. Since you say the mystery has been let out of the bag, spill the beans... LOL...

Looks like some kind of semi-circular armature holding a series of LEDs that is either moved by hand or a small motor.

Mike

p.s. Please... NO SQUIRRELS!!!

I'll have the "Light Mafia" after me But yes - what you describe is how my cheap hack was done - armature on a broom stick turned by hand. Working on getting a decent central pivot so I can do 2-axis... But the 'proper' way involves using a Spiro Wheel (which creates a nice 'mesh' look to the dome) but I didn't have anything suitable to travel down that route (I'll leave the 'how' of that technique for people to work out and then thunk themselves on the forehead when they get it )

I'll put a pic up of my "dome tool" later.. about to go play with it all again (its addictive! )

P.s... Oh all right...
