Late one evening...........
Lens: 55-300 Camera: K 5 Photo Location: Alberta, Canada

........in Watertonton Lakes N.P. I came across a huge herd of elk. My estimate was about 500 animals, the mountain meadow was just full of them. There wasn't much light left and I should have bumped the iso up but than hindsight is always 20/20

Heinrich, I never realized they grouped into such a large herd, but I guess it is safety in numbers. That sure is beautiful country, I bet you camp there as much as possible. "God's Country" as they say. Thanks for the photos, I really enjoy them. Bob

I really like the mountain details brought out by the low angle light. Very impressive landscape regardless of the herd of big critters would make a great 24x36 print. Nice stuff Heinrich!

Hi Bob and thank you. Up until then I had never seen more than about 10 in a herd. It is very nice country and we just made reservations for next June.

Take care,

Hi Lee and thank you. I agree about the print but have no room to hang it.

Take care,

The shots of the mountains alone are great Heinrich - and the elk are a definite bonus!
Nice work.....

In Northern Europe I usually only see there droppings and certainly not so much elk on one spot. Like the color layering in the mountain backdrop!

Simply terrific, Heinrich. It's as if you called the elk in on cue!

Thank you Dave, I believe that a herd of that size is very unusual, we'll be in Jasper in a another week and see.

Take care,

Thank you Remco, I was lucky, 10 minutes later there wasn't enough light to take any sort of decent picture.

Take care,
