A few recent hummingbirds
Lens: DA*300 Camera: K5 Photo Location: Southwest Ohio
Posted By: Bud, 09-05-2011, 07:17 PM

The Ruby-throated Hummingbird southern migration is in full swing now and I've had several visitors over the past few weeks.

Images are labeled with the name of the flower which are all either in my yard, garden or in containers on the deck.

Shot in either manual exposure or TAv mode. Most using available light (I occasionally use the 540 flash for fill in bright sun)

Thanks for looking!

Bud, I was very proud of my hummingbird shots that I posted yesterday until I saw this! Seriously, this is outstanding work. I love the clarity, depth...whats not to love. I think I can say that these are the finest hummer pics I have ever seen. Simply awesome work!

Outstanding set of images!

We've had 3 resident hummingbirds at our home the entire summer, but never got a shot I liked.

When I see images like these, I know I will try harder next year!

Wonderful. It is terrific to see them doing their job with their heads deep in the flower and distributing pollen. Nature at its best.

Thanks, everyone, for the comments!

It's raining here and the temps are much cooler now... and the number of hummingbirds is down significantly with the cooler weather.

Here's some rainy day shots from yesterday...

Thanks! The whole photography / gardening / symbiotic nature thing has been a great summer pastime for me. I grow several salvias that are native to Central America, where the Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds spend their winter months... and I also seek out unique species that work as perennials here. Deep blooms always seem to be a feature of the most popular plants and there are several species that seem to be pollinated by hummigbirds, almost exclusively, because of this design... nature is very cool
