A trip to the lake
Camera: Pentax K-r Photo Location: Culpeper, VA
Posted By: loco, 09-10-2011, 04:28 PM

Went out early this morning to a local park, Mountain Run Lake, in Culpeper, Virginia. Got a few shots I'd like to share. Hope you like, and C&C is always appreciated.

Thanks for looking...

Love the 1st photo, great reflection and colors and also the BIF. Sure looks like a beautiful area to picnic and just relax, thanks for posting these great shots. Bob

I'm hardly qualified to be a photo critic, but I know a beautiful scenery shot when I see one - very nice, esp. like #1

Nice shots

The first photo could be reframed to focus solely on the back shoreline and reflection on the lake, after cropping the foreground IMHO.

Thank you for posting.

Many thanks, Bob! It is a very nice place, just a short ride from where I live. Yet I hadn't been there in many years.

Thank you, hcc! I've attempted to crop it a bit. Do you think this is better?

I would crop even further the bottom part (eg crop evne further about the lower 3rd of your cropped shot) to keep the 2/3rd rule with the lake shoreline about 1/3-2/3 of the photo starting from top. [Hope that the comment makes sense to you.]

Food for thought.

It does make sense, thanks! I really like the expanse of the reflection of the sky, though, and fear cropping further will take away from that. Just trying it out here by scrolling this thread, it appears I'd also lose the sun's rays in the reflection if I crop it that much. Still would be a nice shot, just not really what I was going for.

The first crop I tried from your suggestion I actually really like, so I appreciate the thought!

All your shots are great shots.

I am only passing a suggestion. When I first looked at your shots, the Internet was slow and the 1st shot was only partially loaded, and it gave a great contrast on the lake shoreline in the background with the sky reflexion in the foreground at the lake surface.

Food for thoughts and thank you for sharing
