Monument Valley
Posted By: Bob Harris, 09-25-2011, 08:33 PM

The park is located within the Navajo Nation territory and you can take a self or group guided tour. General admission to take the scenic 17 mile self guided drive is $5 per person and worth every penny. We camped at nearby Gouldings RV park which has full hookups and lots of red sandstone to carry inside your rig. This is a magical must see monument tour, we have visited several times and it only gets better each time.
Here are a few photos taken on a mostly cloudy day and lack color, but I think you can get the general size and magnificence of these monoliths in the land of the Navajo.

John Ford would feel right at home, especially in #1.
Kyle, he spent a lot of time in the area filming, that is for sure. Why don't they make Westerns anymore? thanks for looking. Bob

Wow that does look like a very cool place Bob , great shots in difficult conditions.
Dave, now that you have had more than a week taking photos of the Canadian beauty, it is time for you to come out west and take some photos of red dirt. Thanks for looking, Bob

Hey Bob - that first one with the stage coach is very nice - almost looks as if the background were painted. The other shots are great too. I'm really enjoying this part of your travels.

Jer
Thanks Jer for looking, that is a cool shot, it has John Wayne painted all over it. We finally are moving a little faster after spending extra time in the desert this year. We will spend the month of October with family in Colorado, so that will be special for Terri and I. We went to the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert in AZ the last couple of days and headed for the Acoma Pueblo Indian Reservation "Sky City" in NM in the am for a couple more days. If you get bored, you can follow us around for a couple of weeks. Bob

you're spoiling us with those magnificent vistas bob... can't help to compare the old stagecoach to the modern version(s) in the last shot... a wee bit more comfortable now to traverse the great outdoors...dave m

Remco, this is wide open country much like the areas that you take your hikes in, but no fishing here. Thanks Bob

Thanks for commenting, I know you like the Westerns so I am glad you liked the series. Oh, there are still a lot of Indians here, not many cowboys left on the Navajo Nation lands though Bob

Dave, never thought of it that way, but you are right. We basically travel around in a 40' stagecoach, unfortunately ours takes more horses and the fuel used now is a lot more expensive than the grasslands they ate. Take care and thanks for looking. Bob

Thanks Charlie, I have found photographing landscapes is a lot easier than hummingbirds and macro bug shots. Bob
