Sundown with a Gin and Tonic
Lens: DA 35 and DA 70 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Kemah Channel, Seabrook, TX
Posted By: Sailor, 09-28-2011, 06:16 PM

Last week, Connie and I made a quick, overnight trip to Kemah to install a new mainsheet system on Cut Time. We decided on dinner at Outrigger's, an elevated bar-restaurant on the Kemah Channel and directly adjacent to the Kemah Channel Bridge. Our timing was perfect, since we arrived at the place right at sundown - when the sun sucks the day's heat into the ocean, and we ate on the deck overlooking the channel we so often use on our way to and from Galveston Bay. I grabbed a few shots; none are long-term keepers (it was cocktail hour, after all), but I hope they give you a feel for that perfect temperature when balmy sea breezes make being outside almost exotic.

The sun leaves; looking West along the channel:

To my prosaic palate, the food is so-so, but they do a great Tanq and Tonic:

A shot of the Kemah Boardwalk - beyond all the lights is a very dark Galveston Bay:

The Kemah Channel Bridge underwhich we often pass:

Hey, Bob - thanks and, yeah, it's one of a number of "coastal culture" places that I enjoy.

Hey, thanks Dennis. The Boardwalk is a hoppin' place in the summer and on weekends.

Hey Dave - cocktail hours for sure (two is better than one). Thanks for the nice words.

Fine shots, haven't been down there in many years, but it makes me want to take a little trip and enjoy the coast again.

Thanks, Rupert - it seems the "fever" is about to break here and we're going to enjoy some true Texas Coast Fall next week - we're planning on spending a few days on Cut Time.

I appreciate it, Larry - we're moving into the nicest time of the year around here - Fall (which is rather like a Michigan summer, more-or-less).

Thanks for the nice words, Dan. I'm flattered, particularly after looking at your terrific night shots just a moment ago.
