The Tepees
Lens: various Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Arizona
Posted By: Bob Harris, 09-29-2011, 08:06 PM

The Tepees area is in the Petrified Forest National Park. These cone-shaped clay hills are named after the Indian ‘wigwams’ and have remarkable banded colors.
These layers are caused by different kinds of minerals: the cap of the tepees is clay, white layers are sandstone and reds are iron-stained siltstone.

Wow, the first shot is amazing. The light and shadows and clouds are very compelling as are the bands of color in the "tepees". Amazing landscape!

Bob, you're sure covering some ground, buddy, and producing a bunch of outstanding landscapes. That first pic is especially spectacular.

I have fond memories of this exact area, where the meter dial finally got nudged into spot-meter, and stayed their for a couple days by accident. Luckily everything is pretty much mid-tones :-)

Thanks for the memories.

thank you Lori, you are always too kind with your comments, but I sure enjoy them. I think the trick out in the desert is getting that light just right, which is hard to do when generally there aren't many clouds and we like to be back to our motorhome before it starts getting dark. That basically leaves the high noon sun. take care, Bob
