Contest winner, gallery reject
Posted By: ccallana, 12-08-2007, 12:57 AM

I entered a local contest recently and just found out I won Best in Show!! I was totally shocked - flattered of course. Ironically, this same image was rejected by the Pentax Photo Gallery...

congratulations ccallana,

I've had the same sort of thing happen to me.
I've stopped submitting images there, and don't think I'll bother with it again.

A well deserved win. That's a great shot on so many levels.

Can't say I've ever browsed the gallery. I guess maybe I won't.

That shot is truely filled with sentiment that will likely make any soldiers in Iraq to be nostalgic.

Its an image the viewer can make as much-or little of as he/she wants. I like it.

PS: Pentax Photo Gallery? What is that, some kind of "official" Pentax Gallery?

That's exactly what it is. It's an online gallery of pics from Pentax users. Here's a link:

I, too, have been scratching my head and wondering exactly what they're looking for. That's a great shot you posted, ccallana. Congrats on your Best in Show win, too!

How do you get them to considere photos then? I cant se any "post image" options.

They have to send you an invitation to submit pics. Look under "Site Tools" at the top of the page. Then select "Contact Us" from the pull-down menu. Send them a note saying you'd like to submit some pictures for consideration and they'll email you an invitation. From there, you set up an account and upload your pictures. You'll get a page where you can view the pics you've submitted and see whether they're still under consideration or if they've been declined. I don't know what happens when one gets accepted because that's never happened so far. LOL But I do have one pic that's been in there about a week and a half or so while all the others that I submitted at the same time have already been declined. That's a good sign, right? Btw, I don't know if you noticed or not, but you can search the Pentax Gallery by camera model or lens. I think it's kinda fun to look up my different lenses and see what kind of results other folks are getting with them.

Nah...it's just highly subjective, like most art forms are. Try as we may to be impartial, EVERYONE has their preferences.
