Some of my day at the Miramar Air Show 10/1/2011 · 11:42 AM

The Miramar Air Show took place this past weekend here in San Diego so I decided to purchase seats and spend some time at the show and enjoy some of the great aerial displays.

As someone who purchased their first DSLR a few days ago, I had no idea how difficult it would be to capture a jet in flight. After numerous throwaways, these are some of my better photographs. I would like a round 2 as I know things will only improve... Next year!

If anybody has any tips, please let me know!

Nicely done! I really like the the Harrier (#2)and first Fat Albert (#3) shots, and you did a very nice job with the other aerial shots.

Fat Albert rules. Nice thing about Blue Angels is that they come back, year or two later and perform the same show. So you get to do it again and again and...

Great series of photos, looks like you have the BIF down very well. My sister went to the show also and said it was great, as your photos show. thanks for posting these. Bob

Bob, what is BIF?

Ex Finn, you are right. They are here every year so I look forward to next year and getting better shots. The 300mm zoom really wasn't enough unless the planes were near center.

Nicely done BIF is the guy from the first Back to the Furture movie

(actually means Birds In Flight) and Bob is right you did well on the BIF be them metal or flesh they are difficult to nail down.

Great shots. some of those formation shots must have been hard to get.

Hi,

Yes, all of the shots were difficult for me back then. That was my first week of ever owning a SLR. It was definitely a good learning experience and I look forward to heading out next year. Hopefully with a bit longer lens and a year's worth of practice I will be able to shoot better photos.
