Enjoying a Frozen Wonderland
Posted By: little laker, 12-09-2007, 03:45 PM

I went to a local Lake today, and couldn't resist taking a moody picture of this tree.

These 2 were a real bonus, and reminds me of why I like the outdoors so much.
There's something for everyone to enjoy.

I don't know which pic I like the best, so I'm posting this one as well.

My #1 goal for the day was to get a picture of this waterfall partly frozen over, and I think that I managed it

The little girl shots are priceless...

I'm curious though, what shutter speed did you have to use to freeze the water in the watefall so?

Great series of shots Stu. I like the way the tree complements the line of the mountain. Both shots of the little girl are great but I would plumb for the second one on balance as I feel there is just a touch more "interaction" in the scene. Great colours especially the ice. Good shot of the waterfall; would have liked to see it just a little closer in. Temperature must have dropped a little further since November.

Thanks Paul,

Sorry that I didn't get closer to the waterfall. I didn't really want to climb down that slippery ledge any further
And that was my favorite landscape lens. We're getting a dump of snow at the moment, and I'm thinking of going back tomorrow if possible.
I just bought a ND4 filter, which I might try tomorrow, and see how a longer exposure looks.

Enjoyable series Stu. I love the second one of the little girl ice fishing and looking down.
Thank you.
She was perfect for pictures that day
I wish that I could get models like her ever day.

Then she didn't catch them.....

Seriously, the landscape one of her fishing is fantastic (third photo). She is really sharp in focus while the background is just out of focus enough to emphasize the subject, but not to make it unrecognizable. Nice Photos Eh.
Thank you very much

Hi Stu, congrats on a great series. I am particularly impressed with the shot of the little girl fishing, with the red bucket close by (No.3). That red bucket makes a great addition to your shot.
Very well done!
Thanks Bruce.

Thank you Nesster,

The waterfall was shot at 1/500th of a second, so a pretty fast shot.

Even though I'm hopefully trying a longer exposure tomorrow I'm not really fond of long exposure waterfalls
Mostly because I feel that they're overdone.
