Sunrise on the Mountain
Lens: Tamron 17-50 f2.8 Camera: Pentax K-x Photo Location: Northern Illinois ISO: 200 Aperture: F11

Where I live it's very flat. So I went to the highest point in the county which has a nice view east even though it's just barely above the treetops. It's called Gander Mountain and the sporting goods store is actually named after this place and was founded just over the border in WIlmot, WIsconsin. Even though the sunrise was nothing special with no clouds, the morning light was magical. I'm not a morning person so I don't shoot enough sunrises.

1. After messing around in Photoshop I discovered a way to add artificial fog to this picture. Does it look real enough?

2. In-camera HDR.

3. Shot with Pentax 55-300mm.

4. HDR again.

5. Backlighting

6. The side of the mountain.

7. Looking up towards the "peak".

8. This lens is almost as good as the DA15 at making sun stars.

9. I loved the variety of colors in this clump of trees.

Nice job, Kevin! I particularly love the grass image.

Hope you brought you mountaineering gear for that excursion. The in-camera HDR looks remarkably good, especially in #4. #3 is fun and I agree with you about #9 -- nice composition. Great set.

The thin air all the way up there made it difficult to breathe . Actually out of the camera HDR comes out really flat. Sometimes after a lot of editing in Photoshop I can get it to look better though. It also often has banding across the sky which is annoying and challenging to remove. But I haven't taken the time to learn how to put together my own HDR images so in-camera HDR is all I shoot right now.

Oh, ack, nothing could be easier. Open image(s) in HDR program/plugin. (Ask it to align the images if necessary.) Select appropriate preset or adjust sliders to taste.

Beautiful series and the fog does look real to me. The simple sway of grasses are so appealing and the picture with just one blade leaning and the bokeh background is stunning. They all are very creative and lovely to view.
