Play with Takumar etc
Posted By: Nesster, 12-12-2007, 10:34 AM

New kitten, a Maine Coon, old lens, a Super Takumar 50/1.4, into a 12mm extension tube and further into a 2x converter, the converter plugged into a K100D.

I'm kinda stoked at the results.

And just for the hoot, the Takumar + 2x converter + all three tubes:

Oh, that is one beautiful kitten. Nice work with the extension tubes. I love my S-M-C tak 50 1.4 and I really need to stick it on some m42 tubes... Thanks for the reminder.

Again I think these are really nice.

First of all, let's get this outta the way:

Kittie! KITTIE! LOOKATTHELILKITTIE! Who's a cute lil kittie! You are! Yes yo- DAMN YOU, NESSTER - MY ONE WEAKNESS!

I've heard good things about the Taks. But this just proves it.

The first shot, I make out a single hair over the cat's right eye. I'd have to know what post-pro you did on it, but...wow. And I'd like to know what converter you used (brand, please).

But. Jeez. You could count individual hairs on kittie's face.

Thank you!! Yes I was amazed, I didn't think these would come out so well... I had my doubts about Just How Good the Tak is, but now I'm convinced. (I mean: I can get it to produce lots of CA in one test vs. the 43 LTD, but the color, the detail!)

I shot in camera jpeg, photoshop resize + .3 pixel 125% sharpen is all.
On the flickr page you can see it at 1600 pixels across.

{the local camera store is selling a Pentax slide copier set up, mint, but doesn't have the front bellows available... but I think the tubes are enough. I'll be making a visit)

Nice kitty shots. I really like the first one, very sharp with nice tones. I love my Takumars!

Nice! I like the 1st the most of the three too. When in full LBA swing building my 'kit' of lenses, I was dissuaded from using a TC w/a fast fifty lens (wide open or near). Lol ... so what f/stop were you at anyway? Being a manual lens, EXIF doesn't have that.

I clicked down about 3 stops, so 5.6 give or take. ASA 800.

I was trying out the bits in different orders, this was lens -> 12mm tube -> 2x. Not the usually recommended set up but it works.

Now you did it. Mentioned Kitty and Macro. I mounted my new present, a Pentax D FA Macro, on my K100D and looked for a cat (we have four). Stella, our youngest at 2.5 years old, was snoozing on the bed. Now this kitty has eyes faster than a shutter, my wife rarely catches her with eyes open and I had the same problem. I settled on f11 1/60th and shot a bunch while my wife tried to distract her from the camera shutter...

Heh heh, quite a mischevious look in those eyes. Good photography too, maybe we can start a Count The Cat Hairs version of resolution testing...
