Out and about with the 1200mm
Lens: A*1200 Camera: K5 Photo Location: Esquimalt Lagoon ISO: 400 Aperture: F8

I have a few similar shots with the gold reflection in the water from the turning leaves, but I liked the black background the best. He's facing out of the frame, but it still seems to work...

Early morning on the water......

very nice images. especially the first one. I wish you may share some exif data about the first one and the information about PS retouches you've applied.

Thanks! I underexposed the first shot slightly, taken in M mode and stated off with -7EV. Basically the shot was taken wide open (F8), Exposure 1/60, Aperture F8 (wide open), ISO 400. The exif on the photo will show 800mm, but that's only because the K5 will only go up to 800. I've been leaving SR on and have been happy with the sharpness. I use a remote with the 3 second timer with the A*1200.

I shoot raw from the camera and then use Bridge / Photoshop / Topas Labs for PP. There isn't too much done for post processing. I come from the film days so PP is still something new for me. I pushed the exposure and slightly increased blacks, but much less than you would expect from looking at the photo. A single pass through Denoise and some slight sharpening using the unsharp mask in photoshop. That was all.

Cheers,
Steve

If you're going to a gunfight, you might as well take a big gun, what a lens.
Great capture on #1, hard to say anything negative about such a wonderful photo as that one, great job and thanks for sharing. Bob

I'm following the crowd = great isolation with the EV use on the GBH. Almost akin to a minimalist image.

Great job with such trying conditions and some intentional under exposure!

Very beautiful shots! The ship is my favorite.

While unfortunately some of the more rare lenses often end up on a shelf with some collector, it is good to see that this one has a home with someone who know how to use it.

Thanks Douglas....I always worry about the possibility of bumping it or scratching the paint but the lens will eventually deteriorate by sitting unused...I can't imagine not using it....

Great series! Like several others, I like the GBH the best. Well executed creative approach.

Thanks for sharing,

MK

Doesn't the use of the timer turn off the SR?

Thanks Marcus, Dave and Phil!

Jodkast96...that's a good point and I'm not sure. That also brings up another thing I have noticed between my K5 and K7......when set to the "remote with 3 second timer", the K7 will use that setting when I use the shutter button (very annoying when you forget to turn the setting back to normal). My K5 uses the 3 second timer when trigger by the remote, but shoots as per normal when I use the shutter button. This makes me wonder what happens to the SR in this case since the camera setting stays the same but it operates differently. It also makes me wonder if there are other changes between the two models that are not well understood.
