Kingfishers luck last weekend
Lens: Sigma 500/F4.5 Camera: K-r, K5
Posted By: kengoh, 11-07-2011, 11:51 AM

Was lucky to to get 3 migratory kingfishers which 2 of them are rare to find.

#1 Ruddy Kingfisher - got this today.

#2

#3 White throated Kingfisher (residential bird but not easy to find)

#4 Common Kingfisher (which is not common in Singapore)

#5

#6 Black Backed Kingfisher (record shot only)
this is the most rare kingfisher but too bad it was taken 15m away & K-r only got 12Mp vs K5's 16Mp, so pardon the poor details & resolution.

Thanks for viewing.

You always find the most exotic (from a N. American perspective) birds to shoot Ken.

Well done.

15m is far away for you? wow, how close do you normally shoot these birds? And how do you get so close? Are the birds in a zoo or park? Do you use a blind and feed them? Sorry for the bombardment of questions , but I'm curios because I like your results! I'm very lucky if I get within 30-50m from most birds up here hehe!

I'm not always very near to the birds, normally I'll shoot 1st and try to get closer, move fwd few steps shoot and repeat.
But this colourful kingfisher doesn't give me the chance to do so, the moment I step fwd 2 steps it flew off.
