Northern Flicker
Lens: DA 50-300 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Everett, WA Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F8
Posted By: wcchamp18, 11-13-2011, 07:23 PM

It's been either drizzling or raining and way overcast lately so I just sit inside and keep watch on the bird feeders. Today I was lucky enough to catch a few pics of the Flicker. As I was quietly trying to take my shots a guy and his dog cam strolling along and scared the bird away. CC always welcome and I hope you enjoy. Thanks for stopping by! Lens correction, DA 55-300.

Thank you very much! This was the first time I had seen the Flicker with it's wings open. I didn't realize it had so much color.

Very nice...
We have these guys all around us, we see them on the roads flying in front of us. They come and poke around in the gravel on our driveway but we've never been able to take a decent picture of one. You really lucked out, and did a great job of taking advantage. Half is being lucky, the other half is being prepared. Without being prepared, being lucky isn't worth much, at least from a photographic perspective.

Thanks Dave! I find the suet is always the way to go. Right now I have the "Hot" suet out because the squirrels were getting a little active last week.

Thank you Igor. I was trying to get as much of the foliage into the shot as I was able.
