EM, the first photo doesn't even look real, reminds me of a puppy chew toy. I will be interested to find out what it becomes.

I agree with Bob, at my first look it looked like a toy of some sort. BTW, the detail is excellent! Tom

I reckon it will turn into a swan because it's one ugly duckling now.

Sounds like a good idea but I don't have any fish.

I put it back in the bushes away from the Dog who wanted to destroy it but will keep an eye out for it.

Great photo of an amazing caterpillar! Head end looks a lot like some species of our (North American) Swallowtail larva, but tail end looks more like some of our (North American) Sphinx Moth larvae...
Will be interested to hear if you are able to identify it!

It is certainly nothing I want to find in my lettuce! It would put me off of salads for life. Nice detail though.

Yes I'll see what information on it comes to light.

We have these green, black and yellow striped caterpillars that invade every year pretty much to the point where you can be walking down the street and you'll need an umbrella to keep them from falling off things onto you. They turn into pretty moths and actually they're far better than the massive influx of mosquitoes you get when they don't invade heavily, but still they creep me out. It's like the grasshoppers. They come in masses every spring and they eat everything plant-wise that they can. I suppose Mama Nature has a purpose for them all, but it gets old having to flick and or brush off masses of insects off everything...

Thanks for your reply, I can imagine the annoyance created by them in masses.

They're pretty creepy to encounter. I don't like masses of any bugs, but I suppose from a photographic standpoint that they could be interesting. I mean to take a camera out the next time it happens. Your caterpillar, he reminds me a bit of them, and the moth is similar too from the pics I found online. I think I like the moth form better. They're pretty once they change it looks like.
