DA15 does Winter Waterfall
Lens: DA15 Limited Camera: K5 Photo Location: Johnston Canyon - Banff, Alberta ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/4s Aperture: F11

I stopped in at Johnston Canyon yesterday afternoon on my way back home through Canada's Banff National Park. It was beautiful and uncrowded if a little slippery and dangerous! Here's one of the shots that I got of the lower falls, which I'm pretty pleased with. Taken with K5, DA15 Limited at f11, 1/4s, iso100 with circular polarizer (mainly as neutral density filter).

But I couldn't escape without the river god commanding an offering, which he/she got when I dropped my 49mm circular polarizer down onto the snow below the overhanging walkway when switching over to the DA21. Shewt. I could see it right there six feet beneath my reach, but there was no possible way to get at it. So I sulked away. Better than a lens, I guess. Primes are nice. But can be fumbly.

Beautiful shot and good choice to leave the filter behind

Great photo, and great choice to leave the filter. New filters are much cheaper than repairing a broken leg!!

(I can really sympathize - have taken many photos at frozen waterfalls and several times came close to dropping lenses, filters, etc from cold-numbed fingers...)

I like the feel and texture of this shot and always marvel at what a DA 15 can produce. I agree about fumbling around with lenses; I love to use my DA Limiteds, but sometimes the juggling gets to be a bore, so I relax and throw my old trusyt 16-45 and 55-300 into the bag.

I tracked into Johnson Canyon in Sept. Not a lot of great places to set up but worth the trip. Soon they will be ice climbing on the falls. JIM
