I have hundreds of Dove shots...I feed them and they come in my yard by the many dozens twice daily to feed......I can't think of any shot I have that I like better than this one, just love the background and the eye! I'll even disregard that you cut off his tail.....I do that a lot myself!

Best Regards!

Thanks much Rupert, appreciate your kind comment. I had to cut the tail off as it was a wall behind me and I coouldn't step behind to widen the frame....

This is a beautiful picture. Her eye is so clear I can see a reflection and her feathers look supple and layered. The background is gorgeous too. Thanks so much for posting!

Nice capture Igor,

As we seem to have the same gear I have a question for you.

I just got a K5 recently and immediately snapped on my SMC Pentax M 400/5.6. Managed an image of some sort of Sparrow this morning but it exhibits some nasty CAs in the background. I had hoped stopping down might help in this area but not in this case it seems.

ISO 1600, f 11 or so, 1/400 sec.

How do you handle this sort of thing in post processing. I've not yet been able to tone it down to my satisfaction.

Tom G

Tom, thanks much for the comment.

I have the same CA problem with BG twigs/branches. The better the glass the less CA. I shoot all range of Nikon/Canon/Pentax long glass and I just can confirm that simple coated lenses like 400/5.6 or Nikon's older AI non-ED lenses produce awful CA in such conditions. ED/L lenses handle much better. Stopping down does NOT fix this issue. You can tweak it in PP though.
Great shot BTW, Pentax 400/5.6 beats similar Nikon AI lenses in color/sharpness dept.

Thanks for the reply Igor.

I assumed as much. You get what you pay for in longer telephotos I guess.

That said I'm really enjoying this lens in spite of its limitations.
