Festival of Lights Parade [6]
Lens: DA 40 and 70 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Lake Jackson, TX ISO: 3200
Posted By: Sailor, 11-21-2011, 09:08 AM

Every year, Lake Jackson kicks off the holiday season with its Festival of Lights carnaval and parade, the latter of which we attended since our granddaughter was riding on a float (too dim, unfortunately, to photograph). Here are some pics I grabbed from the event. All were shot hand held, generally at ISO 3200 with problematicly slow shutter speeds even given the plodding rate of a parade. Still, I think the shots capture the mood of a small-town parade on a balmy (77 F) November evening.

A local bike club passes by as it leads the parade:

The Corvette Club makes its appearance with my friend and neighbor driving the lead car:

Jer, well I guess the holidays are officially here. What a great time it must have been to be there with family and you just can't beat a Vette dressed up in lights for a parade. thanks for the fun shots Bob

Thanks much, buddy. Yeah, we're still in the 80s during the day, but a cold (cool) front is due today, so we'll be returning to more seasonal highs in the mid 70s.

It was a super evening, Bob - simple, small-town fun with no hassles.

Night shooting has always been a challenge, but K-5 handles ISO 3200 so fine...
Great series, wonderful colors and almost no noise. Well done.

Thanks much, Igor. And you're certainly right - the K-5 handles this kind of stuff with commendable ease.

Thankee, Capn. We were in Houston yesterday and got a fair amount of shopping done!! I know what I'm getting my wife, but I haven't been able to come up with somethiing for her to give me. I started with a request for a new 911 Carrera S and have worked down to an iMac - so far, I've not attracted her - serious - attention.

Thanks a bunch, Dave. The boat parade will be up in Kemah in a couple of weeks and is a pretty big deal with dozens of boats, some decorated beyond imagination.
