Teapot's Shadow
Lens: DA 35/2.8 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Breakfast Room

I enjoy shooting shadows from and details of objects sidelit by a low sun. Here a three of a pewter teapot in our breakfast room taken this morning.

Looks good! The tones and shadows in the background make the teapot look even more metallic. As far as composition goes, I think you should still play around with it a little more, but number 1 works well

Jer, I like the way #1 is photographed, reminds me of the teapot in our room when we stayed on the Queen Mary. Is this a family heirloom?

Thanks, Adam. Yeah, number 1 is the well-balanced "standard" composition of the three and I like it well enough, but I'm partial to number 3. The good news is that the subject is close at hand and I can conveniently play around . . . . . if I can catch that moment the sun shines through just right.

Hey, Bob, thanks for looking. The teapot was my Mom's, but - as far as I know - it has no long family history.

I would crop off the distracting top of #1, thereby making it "more perfect".

+1 SpecialK, if I slide the windows side bar to crop that bit off the top it does make it better. I really like the texture & the reflection of the tee pot. I like #3 as well but same as the first re crop.

cheers
CC.

Thanks for looking. I thought of doing just that, but decided to keep the "contrasting" wall paper pattern in the shot. I'll whack it off and see what happens.

Cropped Versions

Here are cropped versions of 1 and 3 per SpecialK's and Cee Cee's suggestion, which I think improves both considerably. I should've done this in the first place.

The crop of #1 is much better than the original. That wallpaper was a bit distracting. But man, I LOVE that wallpaper! It's awesome. I'd say you should snap some other photos where the wallpaper works as a background and compliments the composition as well! I wish I had wallpaper like that... instead I have boring white walls....
