An Evening by the Lake
Lens: Sigma 70-300 APO DG and Sigma 28mm MiniWide Camera: K-x Photo Location: Lon Hagler Lake, Colorado
Posted By: Colorado CJ, 11-27-2011, 06:05 PM

I spent the evening out at a local lake taking photos. The sky was clear and there was very little wind, making for very calm waters.

These were shot with my Sigma 70-300 APO DG and Sigma 28mm Mini-Wide and my K-x.

Nice ones. I like particularly #3 and #4, and I think that I would love #3 for its colours after some reframing to remove some of the dark forground which does not add much IMHO.

Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, yeah, on #3, I was trying to frame the reflection of the moon in the lake as well. I couldn't time the ripples right to get a clear mirror image of the moon though.

CJ, cool idea about framing the moon on the lake, but it is just a splinter and quite a challenge I would imagine. You captured the true Colorado clear sky golden sunset. I salute your photography tonight by having a Coors as I view. Bob

So are those two meteor fragments in shot #2? If so, you have some incredible luck. I can't think what else they could be at that shutter speed.

They're really beautiful shots, #2 and #4 especially.

No, that isn't a meteor, but a high flying jet. You see these short contrails all the time in the evening light, the sun is actually below the horizon and lighting up the bottom of the contrail.

They can be very unusual looking sometimes.

Ah OK, makes sense. Still adds a nice touch.
