With a model this cute, I don't think you could take a bad shot! I personally like the first one a bit more than the second, but both are excellent captures.

Portrait macro?

Cheers all.
Everyone believes their own kids are the cutest in the world, and I'm no exception.

Just a technical question: Would such a picture, or any other portrait shot, be captured as well/better with an FA 100/2.8 macro? Mine's on its way to me in the mail, which I intend to use at work, and want to know if it's good for more distance shots (like some other macro lenses are famed to). Any ideas?

Nice protraits, Ash. I know a few people that love to use DFA 100 macro for protraits and a favorite lens for outdoor lens since it covers macro and telephoto shots.

But DFA is lighter than Fa version. I like mine.

I like the picture frame effect that the yellow peek a boo hole creates. It reminds me of a series of photo I saw in a Vancouver gallery a few years back. The artist cut the prints so that he could have parts of the print protrude through the frames he used. He used all sorts of odd items as frames (like your peek a boo hole). He had a picture mounted in a large egg shell that looked like a young lady hatching, an old window frame with a picture of a pie in it cooling. Some real neat 3D approaches. Your daughters small hand poking through the potential frame would be just the perfect example.

Everybody thinks that their kids are cute, some are lucky enough to be right!

Ashraf, I was about to say the same thing. In this case, she is all that was said above.

I personally like the first one much much more than the second because;

She's making eye contact with the viewer
You've used a prime colour, making the photograph stand-out
You've used a natural frame to frame the subject

Well done.
