Pearl Harbor - late '70's
Lens: Canon Camera: Canon EF Photo Location: Pearl Harbor
Posted By: SpecialK, 12-07-2011, 07:46 PM

Well, it was supposed to be entitled Pearl Harbor (maybe some mod can edit it)...Some scans from about 1977. These are "proof-scans" I made a couple years ago to organize my ancient photos. Someday I should make better ones...

I'm assuming the tour is still free.

I skipped the designated boat back, so I had a few minutes by myself before the next load arrived.

Thanks for sharing. That's a "bucket list" destination for sure.

Was there last winter...definitely a must-do in Hawaii. What cannot be observed in these (good!) photos is the smell. The ship still continually leaks fuel/oil, and it is quite pungent on the memorial.

Very interesting, indeed. My daughter, while visiting Hawaii, took the tour several weeks ago. Based on her photos, little seems to have changed. She was quite moved by the experience and was fascinated by the fact that the Arizona is still leaking oil.

I've had the honor of visiting this memorial on several occasions while on active duty (Navy) and as a civilian. It was a very sobering experience to stand over the USS Arizona and see the oil still bubling up after all these years and to also realize that they were not able to recover all the bodies. TFS.

The wife & I were there last year. It is indeed a very emotional experience. We were there on 9/11, which made it more meaningful. Side note, about 50% of the people there from Japan.
