Photography Weekend part 2 - The Lovely Couple
Camera: K5D Photo Location: Edmonton - Kinsmen Park
Posted By: Wired, 12-11-2011, 09:50 PM

This is my first time doing portraits on a planned trip. I've taken spontaneous portraits of family members before, but never did a planned trip where I tried to get people to pose a bit. It's actually a lot harder than I thought... This is part 2 of my weekend shooting (part 1 was the eclipse). I got 2 more groups to post of portraits with different groups as well.

DA* 16-50mm @ 36mm 1/45sec F/9.5 800iso

DA* 16-50mm @ 31mm 1/180sec F/2.8 400iso

DA 10-17mm @ 10mm 1/60sec F/8.0 400iso

DA 10-17mm @ 10mm 1/20sec F/8.0 400iso

M 200 1/250sec F/5.6 800iso

M 200 1/350sec F/5.6 800iso

M 200 1/250sec F/5.6 800iso

M 50 1.7 1/8000sec F/1.7 400iso

M 50 1.7 1/3000 F/1.7 400iso

My biggest mistake was forgetting to switch my camera from remote release mode back to hi-drive mode (where I usually keep it). I didn't realize the shake reduction got turned off when you did that. Ruined about 70% of my photos. Thank god I wasn't getting paid to do this.

I love shooting the M50 wide open to get that bokeh!

Good test run.
Next stage is to work on framing more aesthetically and creatively, as well as getting their poses right.

yea, its obviously beginners work.

I thought the fisheye shots were creative. But I really have no idea how to do poses properly. I believe some hands on direction would be needed here. Or a workshop, or something.

Considering I'm 100% self taught through books and forums, I'm happy with what I did here.
