Cheap macro
Lens: Pentax-A 50 1.7 Camera: K200D Photo Location: Mithcell Co. Ga.

My attempt at cheap macro. I took a Quantary AF 2x converter and removed the glass. Mounted it on the camera for a extension tube and mounted the 50A 1.7 onto it. I set the lens on infinity, using catch in focus I moved the rig in on the subject til it fired. I think it worked ok, probably close to 1:1 macro.........

If your TC is 25mm thick then your magnification is EXT/FL = 25/50 = 1:2 with the M50 at infinity focus. Add another deglassed TC and you're at 1:1, the HEART of macro country!

Meanwhile: Nice leaf shot. Creamy white flowers are always tricky with handheld macro because their lack of contrast makes focusing difficult, and details tend to get lost.

Clever use of CIF there . (Kind of abvious when you mention it, but I don't think it would have occurred to me ).

The TC is about 25mm, it's close to the 30mm tube I have. Will catch in focus work with plain tubes?

nicely done Bluestringer, clever use of that TC, that reminds me I purchased some cheap extension tubes of ebay a while back but haven't tried them yet, I'll have to give them a try now that the light's a lot better. I'm pretty sure its all fully manual with mine.

cheers
CC.

Yes, CIF works with plain tubes, plain bellows, lens mods, anything that covers and (safely) shorts the mount pins. One of my favorite little portrait setups is a 75mm enlarger lens on plain tubes; I use CIF with that constantly. Be aware that SR won't be effective at macro distances. But CIF works anywhere, anywhen, as long as there's sufficient light on a contrasty subject.
