Cactus by Night!
Posted By: Bramela, 12-24-2007, 12:39 PM

Just a couple of shots I took last night of a Cactus flower.
This flower only appears after dark and lasts one night. Dies at morning light.
Is pollinated by a particular moth.

Beautiful

Those a great pics Bramela.. and one gorgeous flower...

My grandmother used to hav one of those I believe when she lived in Arizona. If it is the one I am thinking of the flower is actually quite large... like the size of a persons head?? Is that the same flower???

Happy Holidays, Kim

Thanks for the comments.
Kim : I estimate these flowers to be about 6 inches across. Very long fleshy fronds up 2 or three feet and even more, and the flowers come out along the edges, can be 3, 4 or more flowers on each frond.
They open very suddenly in the evening, fascinating to watch.
Thanks again.

Hey Donald. You say cereus. Is that the type of cactus, the name, would be intersted to know.
Or is that a typo.

Thanks mate.

The colour is outstanding. Clarity and simple. Was the cactus grown in pots or in the wild?
