San Jacinto Peak
Lens: 80-320mm Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Palm Springs, CA ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F4.5

Naturalist John Muir wrote of San Jacinto Peak, "The view from San Jacinto is the most sublime spectacle to be found anywhere on this earth!"
The steep escarpment of its north face, climbs over 10,000 feet (3,000 m) in 7 miles (11 km). This is one of the largest gains in elevation over such a small horizontal distance in the contiguous United States.
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway from Valley Station near Palm Springs up to Mountain Station at 8,516 feet is a very popular tourist attraction. I took the photo from Date Palm Drive on the desert floor, elevation about 400 foot with some nice late afternoon sun highlighting this rugged mountain.

Nice shot Bob. I'll never forget when I went up the Palm Springs Tram. I saw this mountain just yesterday from a plane.

from where I took the photo, I believe that would be buildings that are located along Hwy 111 at the base of the mountains. Thanks for looking CC, always appreciated.

Besides the beautiful weather in Palm Springs, the mountains provide quite a backdrop. Thanks Tom for taking a look.

We went up the tram years back, my wife does not like heights, you know the rest of that story. I think I got a photo of your plane passing by yesterday. thanks for looking.
