Studio Shots from Sunday
Posted By: sjl7678, 12-25-2007, 03:21 PM

I haven't posted here in a while, but I took a few photos on Sunday that I'm pretty happy with. My friend wanted some headshots and I had a portraiture assignment in my photo class, so it worked out well.

We rented a local studio and I got to use some nice studio strobes instead of the hotshoe flashes I usually use. I'm pretty pleased with the results. Any advice is appreciated!

The first shot really does it for me... I really enjoy the lighting the model's relaxed, lovely pose.

The third shot is also quite effective, though the strap of her top on the left of the image provides a hint of distraction to a well composed shot.

As for the second shot... well, I generally enjoy to see some catchlights in the eyes. No excuse not to make the eyes stand on when in the studio. Just doesn't work for me.

Overall... nice job!!

Agreed, number one does it for me. The smooth red against her silky white skin and the dark background. Nice work.

Quite a great series here.

The last shot is my favorite

the first shot is great but I like the idea behind the 3rd the best. A tighter crop as hamidlmt mentioned would make the shot. Overall excellent work and looks like it was fun and a good experience.

That first portrait is really wonderful. I love the expression on her face and the lighting is great.

As others have said, #1 is terrific. However, I'm also taken with number 3 - nice work, indeed.

Thanks everyone! As for the catchlights in the eyes in number two, how would I go about doing that without ruining the nice skunk-lighting in that picture?

I haven't tried this myself but maybe a very dim light behind the camera would provide enough for the catchlight in the eyes without filling the shadows in the face. I think this might at least be worth a try.
