Nice portraits and you created a good effect with the out-of-focus lights in the background.

These are fantastic! I'm looking to snap random folk myself so these really inspired. Just curious about what lens you used?

Most of the night/dark/standing under streetlight shots, are primarily about shape of each individual face. The mixture of light and dark draping over the contours to highlight the unique lines of each. Sometimes eyes are not visible because the persons brow sticks out too far, or the eyes are too far inset for the angle of light coming a particular street lamp used. The night shot compositions take a bit more thought and preparation to get light i'm happy with. Most times I like having the front half of the head lit, with the back dark and not coming down too far, so I see just a face. Sometimes I just can't get light on the eyes under certain street lights without having them raise their head a substantially.
