dont give up bossa

technically your photos are really good, but personally I wouldn't have voted for them. They lack something, a story I guess. Keep at it!

EDIT: I have just submitted some images (first for a very long time). See how we go!

Keep trying. I think the rejection rate is increasing now. It's easy to get something like a bird shot accepted even if its out of focus. Your shots are a little different and that's good. The only one I remember voting on is the beach shot. I did like it but I voted no because the horizon is sloping.

Thanks guys.

Hmm.. the horizon is sloping on that beach shot.. somehow that got by me.. lol Thanks

Actually, that shot is part of a pano and I don't even remember why I submitted it. My photo's are preliminary ideas for paintings mainly.. Being a trained painter (4 years at art school) I see things more in 2D than a 'real' photographer would I think.

This is the one I should have uploaded to the Gallery:

Here's another one which was taken for a Pano.. kinda works by itself too I think, (horizon not sloping ;-)

Visual language has many ways to exist and communicate and story-telling is only one part of visual communication. The story, or narrative, of a visual work can be anything.. even just shapes relating to other shapes (that's what a photograph is anyway). The story can be something that just points to your expectations (viewer) and reveals something about you to yourself. This doesn't mean that the artist actually knows something about you that you don't but merely that the artist can offer a framework through which the viewer can explorer those expectations and thus possibly change them.

I feel there is a 'story' in my work and because there aren't many people in there it's not always evident - I like to take a minimalist approach.

Art isn't something that necessarilty even looks 'good' but can be something that takes effort on the part of the viewer to 'get' if you know what I mean. I'm not saying my work is even good but a few of the pic's I uploaded (not all) were worthy of inclusion in the gallery. I won't bother submitting any more shots there.. it really is pointless.

What amazes me is the number of shots that I vote no on that appears in the "accepted" category within hours. I am referring to either poor images etc. The rejection rate may be going up, but the acceptance of some marginal images is still occurring. I had a macro of a tortoise beetle and mirid nymphs rejected a couple of weeks ago. I guess the voters didn't realize how tiny they are. I guess I need to start shooting butterflies.

Where can I see this list of accepted/rejected images that aren't your own? I am only aware of my own images that either succeed or are declined.

Yes, Butterflies, Hummingbirds and lots of worn out old people staring directly at you in black and white.
