Pentax Photo Gallery (PPG) entries
Posted By: Buddha Jones, 12-27-2007, 11:50 AM

Hello all! I am going to make this a sticky post in hopes that I can get all of you who have submitted pictures to the Pentax Photo Gallery (PPG) and have had them accepted please post a couple of them here and please link back to your gallery so we can see your work. We have so many incredible photogs on this site I am curious to see what Pentax considers your best work.

Thanks!

My last four to get in - I have a few more awaiting a verdict on if they make it or not.

Three were with the Sigma 10-20mm, and one was with a Pentax-M 50mm f/1.4.

I've come to realize that I seem to do my best work (so to speak) when the light has gone PFFFT for the day. I'm not sure how thats come to be, but I won't argue it.

A large proportion of the pictures on 1x.com are composited, go for it

Also, I'm not aware of any rules against composites in the PEG. My own opinion is that as long as it still looks like a photograph then there shouldn't be any problems.
I think composite covered by the PPG term -

QuoteQuote:
•Photographs should not be overly manipulated with filters and effects unless done in-camera and loaded to the in-camera effects category. Some dodging and burning to reveal an image is allowed, however, it is not acceptable to move around pixels or add or remove elements. Cropping is allowed.

Sorry, i was referring to the PEG, not the PPG. Tomart was concerned that his image wouldn't be allowed in 1x or the PEG because it was a composite.

I guess it's open to interpretation. The rule you are quoting just means (to me) (1) no frames, (2) no borders, and (3) no line drawings. It doesn't say anything about composited photographs. I suppose we should get clarification from someone

As a PEG judge I interpret no added frames, borders or drawings to mean the stuff round the edges. I don't think there is any guidance on image manipulation, it's left to an individual judge's appetite. I did have an image slammed by quite a few judges because it had some additions, actually very little but it looked much more composited than it actually was. So I guess if it doesn't look composited it stands a chance. I can't see the beach image in question.

There are some very nice images indeed above. I really like Adinifinitum's stunning sea and rocksscape - that would be a good PEG candidate I reckon (subject to the wonky horizon). SarahParish, lovely portraits with real feeling. Deimos wonderful portrait too. And I like MrNewts dark and colourful lizards. Great work and given the ever decreasing acceptance standards it's nice to pop in here once in a while and see some of the real standouts in this thread.

Thank you Ad and Jean - I have to say that it is one of my favourites. I was teaching a wee workshop on a bright sunny day and was trying to demonstrate that on days like that all is not lost. The demonstration worked very well for me.
