I prefer the polariser version. There is much richer colour in the background vegetation. Less effect on the foregrond as I would expect as these are not highly reflective surfaces.

Less sheen on the tree leaves and deeper greens in the CPL version Jim.

Jim, the filter not only improved the color, but made the water more silky appearing.

polarizer for sure - out of interest could you see the effect much through the viewfinder while doing this?

I like them both very much! I think I might buck the trend here and say I prefer the 1st. The less saturated trees just give it a cool-crisp fall day feel for me and I like that. However, I also like the subtle transparency that the CPL added to the water. To that end, maybe a composite masking in the water from the CPL would be worth a shot?

Side note: I just tried a similar shot a couple of days ago where I wanted the saturated look and I couldn't get what my mind's eye saw... you have shown me I should have tried it with my CPL. As a newbie, I forget that it's not just a tool for shots of bluer skies and water. Thanks!

the cpl is almost 'acting' as a warming filter... like the effect... wonder if the 'on board' filters and playing with the wb settings might achieve similar results.... dave m
