I love the creativity. I see you are going for a low light shot and the subject is perfect. As Arno said, it needs a bit of brightening so the white chess piece pops against the black. The depth of field and angled chess board are terrific.

Thanks for the feed back, I tried with the black one to make it stand out by increasing the flash power without highlighting the background too much, I sorted wish I had one that wasn't black (wrong game then )

I dig this a lot, Pete. I especially like the outsize pieces on this particular board - gives the shot a surreal look beyond the terrific composition. I've got not problem with the exposure as it is.
