Lately I've been seeing traditional DSLR's described as
Steampunk technology.
I think I enjoy that characterization. They're a marriage of incredibly advanced miniturization, computerization, sensor technology, with an almost Victorian-age mechanical heart on which all that technology depends.
I sometimes wonder if we live in an actual - not fictional - Steampunk age. Maybe future generations will look back at our quantum physics, nanotech, genome sequencing juxtaposed with coal plants & internal combustion engines and see an odd combination, a weird transition phase that we're not really even fully aware we're in right now.
Anyway I was thinking about that as I took a quick walk through part of downtown St. Paul today, experiencing freezing drizzle, windchill.... and steam.
