A couple high ISO shots using 50/1.4 and 135/2.5
Posted By: loudbay, 12-29-2007, 11:48 PM

Just a couple high ISO shots with 'fastish' primes. Garrett (my son) is ISO 800, Pentax M 50/1.4 (close to wide open), lit by Christmas tree and single tungsten bulb. Plate of gummies is ISO 1600, M 135/2.5, also close to wide open, lit by TV and Christmas tree only. I think the noise is no worse than alot of film grain. Everyone talks about high ISO performance, and while these shots are not great, I'm very surprised at what ISO 800 or 1600 and a wide aperature can scavenge.

Thanks for looking,
Matt

The mood is great and sentimental atmosphere. A nice shot.

I would prefer a little lighting on the face but it would lose the air of melancholy.

ISO 1600 noise does add that aged look to it too.

After all, noise can be a good thing as well in protraits

I agree about the noise. I shot with a ME Super for years, and 'played' with a RB67 before jumping into DSLR, so the noise makes me feel at home. I'm going to start experimenting with some homemade reflectors soon and a flash when the $ allows. I was really just seeing how bad the noise got when being pushed. Thanks for the input.

Matt

Roentarre BTW: Nice lens list you've got in your sig. (*s are delicious. MMMMM......)

Edit: Have I mentioned how nice it is to see your shots without paying for it at the lab? Ha!
