Snowy Owl - full adult male
Posted By: jpzk, 01-26-2012, 07:13 PM

Just caught this beautiful bird perched high on a distant tree ... had to walk in snow up to my mid thighs ... very cold too !
Anyway, it stayed there for quite some time and just wouldn't move, so I am hoping it will be there again soona nd I'll be able to take a shot while it is flying.
More to come in different views.

Enjoy!

Wow....They are BIG birds then!
Thanks, Pickles.
Big enough alright, for an owl.

Hoping to get more picks soon ... flying!

Gorgeous bird Charlie .... you are very lucky to have an opportunity to shoot these wonderful birds.
Thanks!

In spite of our long winters, we still have nice days like that to enjoy the outdoors and appreciate nature.

a beautiful raptor... captured superbly.... not blowing out those white colors requires real acumen.... kudos! dave m
Thanks a bunch! I appreciate the comment.

I did blow a few picks of that bird yesterday at my first attempts in a series of about 60 pics ... the highlights were blown out a little.
Took me a while to figure out the proper parameters.

I finally settled on spot AF, spot metering with no EV comp.

So ... went out yesterday after the snow storm : 30cm of the white stuff - and nothing around !
The owls decided that the snowblowers and other such machinery were too much for their sensitive senses.

I'll be out again tomorrow ... hopefully I'll have more luck.
