You Can't Go Back Home, Prescott
Lens: various Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Prescott, AZ

This was a small town of about 10,000 basically an old west style town that my grandparents live in. I first visited in 1958 if memory serves me right and went back a couple other times up until 1963. I remember the little burger place that served those great chocolate malts. My grandmother worked at the courthouse, and I would walk down there at 4:30 to meet her and she would often take me there for a burger or coke.
Lots of great memories of going shopping and I remember the trip to Jerome an old mining town up in the mountains that my grandfather knew quite well.
We were visiting Sedona and I had often spoke of this back in the day small town to my wife Terri, so we left one morning, traveling up to Jerome and then down to the valley where Prescott sits. Surprise, surprise, my little western small town was now a spread out city. I didn't recognize anything whatsoever of the area. Directions from a gas station guided me to the courthouse, which I found and recognized. I think the diner was still located just down the street also. Here are a few photos taken from an area that I did recognize, and a few that are new additions. I even remember the "P" on the mountain. Like they say, you can't go home again but we did have a nice visit which brought back many memories.

A very nice series, Bob and I very much enjoyed your trip into the past - which can only be remembered, never revisited.

I think they got up to about 25,000 at one point. My mother lived there for a few years and I made it out once or twice.

Locals pronounce it Pres-ket. Pres-cott clearly identifies you as a tourist :-)

Good old Press-kit, formerly (briefly) the state capitol, now home to my youngest sister and her son's family, out on the western margins. Too bad it's so accessible from Phoenix. IMHO Prescott and Bisbee have the best climates in Arizona. That statue is 'Bucky' O'Neill, one of Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders. As it happens, my Bisbee adobe was the home of another Rough Rider, Jesse Toland. But I digress. Prescott, just a few hours from the Grand Canyon of the Colorado, has 3 colleges (including an aeronautical university), a splendid town square surrounded by a lively scene... and a monstrous casino high atop a hill on the east side of town. The pawnshop at the bottom of that hill is a likely source of cars, cameras, and other gear left behind by losers and occasional winners. Get lucky, eh?

Susan, it has outgrown my memory, but it is a small town compared to many others we have visited.

Kyle, I bet that camera hanging around my neck identified me as a tourist also. Thanks for commenting. Bob

It can be confronting to go back to the old town. Some things familiar and others just gone. Some call it progress. Thanks for sharing

Rico, you do know your towns, I should of hired you as a tourist guide, it would of been so much easier. As we left town we noticed the casino on the mountain, so had to venture in grab a bite and invest a little bit into Bucky's. Thanks for all the added information and you should get out of the cold and head to Bisbee, but I know you won't be going to Phoenix.

Like you said Bruce, some call it progress, but I wonder at times what that means.
